What Came Before the After

Greetings, crocuses and crickets! Who out there is popping their optimistic little head above the frost line? Anyone? I don’t think I’ve ever been so giddy to see chubby twigs foretelling spring.

In the spirit of renewal, I thought it might be satisfying to see transitions from photographs to paintings. Bending reality through a personal lens is always a bit of witchcraft that I love observing in other artists.

These are part of a new tidal series. You can see the original reference image, then an exaggerated black & white study, and finally the painting. Only the top one is finished, and I’ve destroyed the third one (whyyy? dunno. hazards of the trade).

The cheeriness of the painting below is good evidence that I bear no ill memory of the Incan-gut-curse that I appropriately succumbed to after ingesting fresh juice at the fruit stalls in Peru.

The 100 day project is swimming along… well, swimmingly. We’re 30-or-40-something days in! After a handful of inquiries I’ve decided to release them for sale at the end of the project. It’ll be a very flash-mobby way to get affordable original art, so stay honed. Here are some favorites so far.

If I seem prolific, be assured that many (many!) other threads in this household unravel in the name of art-making. Besos and buttered biscuits, my dears, daffodils are on their way.
