Art Letter 13: Worthiness
Isolation carries a funny fanny pack on its hip. Inside are a cluster of self-reflecting little mirrors. Without the presence of others, I pay more attention to myself. Which, I gotta say, stinks like compost in heat. The last thing the world needs right now is me being more me-reflecty.
How about you? Do you question the worth of your days, these days? Here’s a flowchart to help us all orient ourselves. It isn’t meant to pass judgement on others, it’s more of a glimpse inside my own personal head plague:
And to be extra honest, making this chart yesterday inspired me to write a letter to my Grandmother!
Since we’re on an unexpected bean theme, allow me to throw in a few morsels:
This book has been one of the most nourishing projects I’ve ever undertaken. Making art affordable is so important to me. As I’ve mostly made individual time-consuming pieces, that’s been a real hiccup in my heart. I think art has the slinky, sneaky power to make us think more openly. Publishing this punchy combo of illustration + wordplay knocks traditional parenting on its noggin, which is downright… dare I say? Worthy.
Lastly, I don’t know beans about publishing a book! So if you’re stuck in Covid-limbo, kicking around some idea like a bee blindly bumping a pollen pistil, but feeling too vulnerable to pursue your vision, go for it! I’ll cheer you on.
xo, Khara
I leave you with the most recent National Parks compass, Grinnell Lake in Glacier National Park, Montana.
