Suctioned Into an Orca Skin Suit
Three things: Commissions / Prints / Cave Exploration
Not in that order. But at least you know what you’re getting into.
Last week I put on a wetsuit for the first time. The light description “put on” is more accurately translated as “suctioned my body into the unyielding clench of a whale carcass”. People do it all the time around here. I am not those people. I’ve been avoiding those black slurpy straight-jackets for 700 days. But it was the lowest of low summer tides when boldly wet-suited souls can paddle out along the headland and explore caves that are usually UNDERWATER.
Wide arches of basalt that look like melted black bricks twisted into impossible vaults. Ceilings draped with hanging gooseneck barnacles, seastars hanging by a limb like rockclimbers, and walls of dangling anemones that inescapably mimic testicles. Beneath were slopes of polished black pebbles speckled with agates, like a sprinkling of salt on a bed of pepper. Crawling in (more like humping my inarticulate body upward) felt like entering the intestines of the earth. Slick, like a grotto umbilical cord to the depths of something primordial.
What I’m saying is: if you have the opportunity, roll yourself like sushi in that orca skin suit and go exploring. Now that my neoprene cherry is popped I’ll probby do it again. Next is getting up the guts to eat gooseneck barnacles; did you click on that link?!
NEXT UP : Hot buttered prints!
No, that would be greasy and leave fingerprints everywhere. But they are fresh. These two are matted and available here on site, as well as greeting cards. Also sizzling new stuff on Minted and Art Bloom.
BEST FOR LAST : Custom oil paintings!
Like a dog that has run round and round and finally found its own tail, I am caught up enough to make commissions. Woof!
For the next three months I will open up 5 slots per month for a custom 5x5 oil painting. Since oil takes weeks to dry, paintings will ship the following month, with all of them timed to arrive before the holidays. See the shop listing for all details.
